The reason for the foundation of TWGFIM |
| |
|
| |
Since the beginning of the Virtual Autopsy / Virtopsy® research project (www.virtopsy.com) at
the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Bern, numerous
other research groups started in the field of “post-mortem
imaging”. Thus, a fundamental and definitive technological change
in the field of forensic pathology (legal autopsies) and pathological
anatomy (clinical autopsies) is emerging. Therefore -in analogy to the
fundamental technological change in forensic genetics two decades ago
(blood group serology to DNA-technology: TWGDAM = Technical Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods - the creation of a Technical Working Group Forensic Imagining Methods (TWGFIM) became necessary. |

Aim and purpose of TWGFIM |
| |
|
| |
The TWGFIM
determines the scientific and technological conditions, in order to
achieve reliable and legally approved results with Virtopsy®. It
aims to promote an increasingly internationally standardised approach.
The TWGFIM offers a discussion forum for forensic pathologists and
radiologists, in order to exchange technical and scientific information
regarding the Virtopsy® technology. The central aim of the TWGFIM
is therefore the validation of existing Virtopsy® methods and the regulation of respective instructions - „Guidelines for Virtopsy® Methods“.
